Art/Lab: Innovating
Jewish arts and culture

is a community of contemporary Jewish artists & culture bearers and the audiences we engage throughout Portland, ORegon and
the environs.

Our work manifests as:

  • The Fellowship Cohort

This dynamic flagship program remains the heartbeat of Art/Lab – powering creativity, forging connections. The cohorts serve as an incubator for multiple voices with multiple perspectives across the religious and political spectrum.

  • Public Events + Arts Workshops

Whether its a performance about the Jew-ish spirituality of Bob Dylan, a conversation about cultivating creativity through ancient Jewish wisdom, a film screening, an artist talk, a book launch, an exhibition or more, we host local, national and international Jewish artists whose work rests at the intersection of Jewish thought, Jewish identity and creative practice. We also offer once-a-month arts workshops facilitated by the Art/Lab Fellowship Cohort alumni network. All are welcome.

  • The ArtLab: A Gallery & Project Space

Situated in the Eastside Jewish Commons, The ArtLab serves as a safe and inviting space for established and emerging contemporary Jewish artists to show their work, experiment and gather.

  • The Genesis Podcast

Our podcast is a living documentation of the Jewish cultural renaissance taking place across the globe. Rabbi Josh Rose, Rabbinic Advisor to Art/Lab, produces and hosts the podcast which examines this renaissance through intimate interviews with Jewish creatives, primarily from Portland and the Pacific Northwest.

"Art/Lab was a real accelerator for me as an artist and came at a wonderful time in my development. Truly grateful for the launch into broader connection with other artists and the public, as well as a deeper connection to my process."
